We have set up this private site to share with you, our family and friends, a little window into life with our daughter, Emilia Jane. We decided to share in this way, rather than via email messages and/or on social media (since not everyone is on Facebook) so this is much easier. We have everything in one place where you all can stop by and see what’s new anytime. You can also leave us comments if you like, we always love to hear from you. Most of all we are happy to share and we hope you enjoy the photos and posts.

What’s in a name?
We love classic, historic names but not names that are so commonly used – you don’t meet many “Janes” these days! We wrote out a big list of names we liked and slowly narrowed them down to these two.
Emilia, is derived from the Roman feminine name Aemilia. The Latin name Aemilius/Aemilia in turn may derive from the same root as the Latin word aemulus, which means to rival, excel, or emulate, but this may be a folk etymology.
Emilia is the Italian version of the name. It is pronounced the same as Amelia (which is the German version), as in Amelia Earhart.
Jane is a true classic. This one made it on our list because we love the writer Jane Austen as well as the historical figure, Lady Jane Grey, who was, very briefly, queen of England and Ireland in the mid sixteenth century. Lady Jane Grey had an excellent humanist education and a reputation as one of the most learned young women of her day. Read more about her life
